About Me

Alex Burr

I first took an interest in web development sometime around 1998, when I put my first homepage up as a student at Rochester Institute of Technology. After graduating in 2000 with a degree in Information Technology, I began a career in the web, from which I've never looked back.

In 2001 I began blogging when I opened an account at LiveJournal. In 2006 I moved the blog to my personal site, where I have continued to write about a variety of topics, personal and professional.

My employers and affiliations include: Xerox Corporation, Advanced Hi-Tech, Element K, and Cazbah. Currently I work at University of Rochester Medical Center, in the Web Services group, as a Senior Web Developer.

I live in Rochester, NY, with my newly-wed wife, Sarah, and our cat Satch.

This site is hosted by Mike Thibault, running Apache and PHP. My blog is powered by Textpattern. Analytics are provided by the fantastic Clicky.

My platform of choice is Microsoft Windows XP, Media Center Edition. I use Adobe Photoshop® for layout design, and hand-write all code using HTML-Kit. Additional FTP functionality is via FireFTP.

Markup »

I strive to keep all pages on this site semantic and valid in XHTML™ Strict 1.0, with styling provided through CSS.

For web browsing, I first recommend Firefox, followed by Safari. Use of these browsers will mosty closely ensure this website is viewed according to my original intent. To better support users of Internet Explorer, however, I have included server-side browser sniffing to deliver an alternate style sheet.
