The fourth season premiere for Lost was quite a good episode—not quite the unexpected bang of the previous two openings, but with some great things happening, some of which I'd been expecting for quite some time.
The survivors finally split into two factions: those that continue to follow Jack’s (possibly misguided) leadership, and those that have decided to go with the (possibly insane) John Locke.
However, I am a little bit surprised at the split. The news, from Charlie, that Naomi’s crew have no connection to Penny should have cast some severe shadows of doubt on the minds of Sayid and Desmond especially. Hurley and Claire have gone with Locke out of predictable loyalty to Charlie. Danielle seems most connected to Locke, and has a pretty good sense of the island, so she believes Locke (and Ben) about the less-than-charitable intentions of the approaching strangers. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
It should be noted, though, that according to Lostpedia, Jack’s group consists of a large number of unnamed survivors and “red shirts.” It seems pretty clear what’s going to happen: Charlie was right, Ben was right, the new folks are up to no good.
We’ll see. Hopefully some great events will occur before the eighth (and temporarily final) episode of the season.
