I've spent the last few days in misery. Late last week I developed a sore throat, which over the weekend ballooned into all-out Sonic Death Disease. My throat feels like I botched a flaming-sword-swallowing act, and my chest feels like somebody parked a bus on it.
I took a sick day yesterday, and spent the day coughing up goodies of various sizes and colors. Satch was a great companion during the day. Whenever I would go into a coughing fit, he would run in from wherever he was, leap onto the couch, run up my chest, and begin doing that kitty-head-butt thing against my face.
At one point he was asleep at my feet. I started my coughing (which sounds like someone trying to extract a pair of boots from their lungs), and his head popped up, eyes wide as saucers, and then he actually leaped across me to get to my face. Afterwards he climbed up on the back of the couch, where he laid with his eyes open, staring intently at me, as if to guard me against the next attack.
We also played fetch a lot during the day. He’s the only cat I’ve ever seen play fetch. If you grab one of his toys and toss it down the hall, he will attack it (and go skidding down the wood, of course, which is always hilarious), then bring it back to you in his mouth. Sometimes he just plays with it on the floor, but lots of times he’ll climb back up on you and drop it in your lap, and then wait for you to throw it again.
Sometimes I wonder if he’s really a dog.
