This weekend Sarah and I took another trip out to Lollypop Farm. We met three young cats, and one of them was totally awesome, so we adopted him and brought him home.
This time he had no name at the shelter, so it’s up to us fully. We’re settling on Desmond, mostly because it’s such an awesome name it would be a mistake not to name him Desmond.
So far he’s been quarantined in the bathroom (with litter and food/water) since 1. he is finishing up some medication for conjunctivitis and 2. it’s supposed to be good to introduce a new cat by keeping them in a “safe room” for a couple of days. Hopefully he will receive a clean bill of health from his inaugural veterinarian appointment so that we can fully introduce him to his big brother Satch.
Satch seems to be adjusting to the alien presence well. There were a few initial hisses under the door, but now he seems more curious and concerned than offended. When Desmond cries to be let out of the bathroom (sorry, little guy, not yet) Satch will stop what he’s doing (even eating!) to go sit by the door and see what’s up. Otherwise he’s not having any trouble with his usual routine, and has adjusted to having his litter box temporarily moved. There was a moment when Desmond bolted as I opened the door, and Satch was right there, but he did nothing more than sit there watching. No hissing or screaming or jumping or swatting. I’m optimistic that they’ll be friends.
Desmond, meanwhile, is so adorable. He’s incredibly affectionate, rubbing and rolling around in one’s hands whenever he’s handled. If you sit down in his presence, he is getting on your lap and there’s no way around it. And he’s so cute! Mostly white, with colored patches of gray and black tiger striping. Pictures are available in my Flickr set.
Welcome to the family, Des!
