As with most developers’ personal sites, this website is a work-in-progress. Below is some information about the tools and methods that I’ve used in putting it together.
Typography
Fonts used on this iteration of my site include: Rochester (for headings), Alice (for subheadings), and Open Sans (for texts). All fonts are provided through the Google Web Fonts service.
Graphics
Social Media icons are licensed from Gedy Rivera’s fantastic icon set at Lifetree Creative. Background graphics were downloaded from Subtle Patterns.
Technology
When I began blogging in 2001, I opened an account at LiveJournal. In 2006 I moved the blog to my personal site, which was originally published via Textpattern. Since in 2010 it has been powered by WordPress.
This site is hosted by Mike Thibault, running Apache and PHP. Analytics are provided by Google.
My development platform of choice is Microsoft Windows 7. For PHP projects, including this website, I code using Notepad++. Additional FTP functionality is via FireFTP. For ASP.Net projects I prefer Visual Studio 2010. Source code versions are maintained through Mercurial and hosted at Bitbucket.
For web browsing, I first recommend Chrome, followed by Firefox or Safari. Use of these browsers will most closely ensure this website is viewed according to my original intent.
Markup
I strive to keep all pages on this site semantic and valid, but as I have begun experimentation with HTML 5, it may not always be the case.
This site’s markup is delivered via a heavy modification of the Twenty Ten default WordPress 3.0 theme. It is not available for licensing.
Styles
I have built my site’s style sheets as an expansion on the Foundation framework by ZURB. I chose Foundation over other grid systems mainly because I liked the form styles.
